EUGENE, Ore. – The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is starting a new cadet program for 18 to 21-year-olds who are interested in law enforcement.

The program is meant to mentor young men and women who have a desire to serve the community, but are not old enough to apply for a law-enforcement job.

The cadet program will offer participants a chance to learn about law enforcement careers and develop the skills and knowledge to prepare for full-time employment in the sheriff’s office. Successful applicants will be trained by deputy sheriffs in patrol and corrections. They will serve at least 16 hours per month alongside full-time staff members in the sheriff’s office, learning about what a law-enforcement career entails.

Applications will be available beginning Monday at https://bit.ly/36wRSy3.

Space in the program is limited, so those interested in applying should do so right away.
