LANE COUNTY, Ore. -- The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency extended the “RED” home wood heating advisories for Eugene, Springfield and Oakridge on Thursday.
The advisories took effect at 4 p.m. Nov. 14 and were set to last until 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. Now, the advisories will last until 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16.
During a "RED" home wood heating advisory, no visible smoke is allowed from a chimney at a residential home, and people are asked to use alternative heating devices.
LRAPA issued the advisories as air pollution levels rose this week in the lower Willamette Valley from burning activity, and some of the smoke is from the Northern California wildfires.
Without good ventilation, LRAPA said the smoke has been lingering at ground level, affecting air quality.
Economic exemptions are available on LRAPA’s website.
