EUGENE, Ore. -- Lane Transit District has launched Electronic TouchPass with the Bethel School District and Eugene School District 4J.

The new electronic student TouchPass will replace the "verbal bus pass" in which students would tell the LTD bus operators that they were enrolled in school to ride.

Now students will need to swipe their electronic student TouchPass card or mobile phone with the TouchPass mobile app in front of the scanner near the fare box.

Earlier this week Willamette High School and Kalapuya High School students were issued the electronic student TouchPass cards.

LTD and school officials hope students and parents will adjust to using the electronic TouchPass cards.
