EUGENE, Ore. -- Lane Bloodworks in Eugene is in desperate need for platelet donors.
Staff with Lane Bloodworks said platelets help control bleeding and are mainly needed for cancer patients and people having surgery.
They said since platelets only have a shelf life for five days, they are in constant need of a steady supply.
KEZI spoke with Mary Ann Wagley Lane Bloodworks. She said they are at critical levels and only have a two-day supply, which is why they are asking for help.
"The gift of life is the most incredible gift you can give someone that you will never meet,” Wagley said. “It's so important, it literally takes an hour and half to two hours to donate platelets, it takes 45 minutes to donate a unit of blood, it's so important."
To donate you must be at least 16 years old, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds.
Lane Bloodworks is located at 2211 Willamette Street in Eugene and is open for donations seven days a week.
