EUGENE, Ore. – Lane County reported many new cases of coronavirus on Monday.

Lane County reported the following cases, all in the Eugene-Springfield area:

Sentinel testing involves testing people in specific populations, even if they don't have symptoms. The goal is to not only find out who has the virus and catch it early but also to learn more about how it is spreading in the community. Sentinel testing was done in the homeless population and is currently underway in the Latino community.

Oregon Health Authority reported four new cases and a death over the weekend.

Lane County officials reported that death in their Monday update. Officials said it was a 62-year-old man from rural Lane County who died May 4. The man had multiple preexisting conditions. An initial rapid test came back positive, but a second lab found a negative test result with a PCR test. He died shortly after, and it was not originally attributed to coronavirus, but OHA has now assigned the death as coronavirus-related.

Contact tracing is underway for these new cases. If a public exposure point is identified that information will be shared with the public.
