EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene police are investigating a threat of violence made against the Lane County Board of Commissioners and some county staff members.

The threat mentioned upcoming county board meetings, and the county decided to publicize the threat to let community members know about it prior to upcoming county board meetings.

As a result of the threat, Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be attending the meetings. Metal detectors will be used at the entrance to Harris Hall and screening will be required for all who attend.

Security measures were put to use at the meeting on Tuesday, February 27, and community members said they felt safer with them there.

"You know I've got a lot of faith in the Lane County Sheriff's Department, and I wasn't at all concerned," said Jerry Rust, a community member attending the meeting.

Rust said he felt the security measures were appropriate for the threat and made him more comfortable.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to contact Detective Curtis Newell of Eugene Police Department at 541-682-5174.
