Lebanon man accused of Oregon Lottery threat apologizes

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A man accused of sending a threatening email to Oregon Lottery headquarters has apologized.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that Jason Ouellette said he has long struggled with gambling and was angry at himself for losing a "substantial" amount of money at a lottery machine.

Capt. Tim Fox of Oregon State Police said the email sent to the lottery office in Salem on Tuesday contained an imminent threat to shoot people. Within hours, detectives arrested the 42-year-old man at his Lebanon home.

Ouellette was charged with menacing -- a misdemeanor -- and released from jail because of overcrowding

In his apology, Ouellette said the email was "a terrible mistake on my part."

His message containing the apology was provided by Oregon State Police.
