EUGENE, Ore. -- Lightning struck a 120-foot tree in Eugene Saturday afternoon, sparking a fire and sending branches and debris flying hundreds of yards away.
It happened on River Road shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Crews with Eugene Springfield Fire said lightning struck the tree, starting a large fire, and sent debris and branches flying more than 200 yards.
Debris fell on a truck, with people inside. Crews said thankfully, no one was injured and added that the truck was not damaged.
River Road was closed while crews removed the tree, but has since reopened.
