Man accused of starting U-Haul blaze with firework

The firework set a suspected gas thief on fire.

EUGENE, Ore. – Police have identified the man they say is to blame for catching several U-Haul vehicles on fire Sunday morning.

Officers and firefighters responded to 150 Oroyan Avenue, located off of north River Road, at about 5:45 a.m.

Dylan Hannah, 28, of Eugene was arguing with a woman in her 30s near the front doors, police said. He was inside his vehicle and the woman was standing next to it.

Police said Hannah threw a lit, exploding firework at the woman, who ran for cover.

Meanwhile, an unknown man was siphoning gas from U-Haul trucks nearby.

The firework exploded, sending sparks flying toward the gas thief and causing the gas to ignite, police said. The vehicles and the man caught fire.

Police said the unknown suspect ran from the scene while on fire toward River Road.
