SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Springfield Police are warning residents to watch for people stealing packages from porches.

Police say a resident in the area of High Banks and 52nd noticed two people riding bicycles while carrying Amazon packages.

The resident thought the packages may have been stolen from an area porch and called police while keeping an eye on the pair.

Police say Brian Michael Shaver, and Crystal Marie Burns were seen taking the packages into bushes to open them. Police arrived a short time later and arrested the pair after they left pet supplies and books they did not want from inside the stolen packages.

Police say the Amazon boxes were recently delivered on that street. Shaver and Burns were charged with theft and taken to the Springfield Municipal Jail.

Police encourage the public to watch for similar behavior as package porch thefts have increased due to a rise in online shopping.
