BEND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police arrested a Bend man accused of shooting a trumpeter swan near Sunriver last Thanksgiving.

Sunriver police said Tuesday that 23-year old Jordan Dupuis faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful taking of a prohibited species. Trumpeter swans are a protected species in Oregon, and hunting them is illegal.

The swan named Chuck had been placed at Lake Aspen as part of a breeding program to reintroduce trumpeter swans in the area. He was found injured on the Deschutes River and had to be euthanized.
