SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A Springfield man has been arrested for the third time this year after police say he rammed a truck into a police cruiser during a chase Thursday night.
Police say they were first called to the area of 31st and V streets to reports of a drunk driver following a domestic dispute. They say when they arrived Nathan Kenneth Schnee, 44, was leaving the area in a U-Haul truck and attempted to ram into a police car head-on. The officer was able to swerve out of the way.
Police say Schnee led them on a chase and continued trying to run them off the road. Officials say he pulled into the Mohawk Marketplace parking lot at 2000 Marcola Rd., and continued to attempt to crash into pursuing police vehicles before getting back on Marcola Road and heading east.
The pursuit ended at 28th and Marcola Road after Schnee is said to have deliberately rammed into a K-9 unit - causing substantial damage to both vehicles. Schnee was taken into custody after fighting with officers.
This is Schnee’s third arrest for similar erratic behavior since Jan. 1, 2021.
He faces multiple charges including resisting arrest, attempted assault on an officer, three counts of reckless endangering, reckless driving, resisting arrest, DUII, and criminal mischief.
