SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A springfield man was arrested early Friday morning after he assaulted an officer.
Springfield Police say they pulled over a suspected impaired driver at 54th and Main Street around 12:36 a.m. The driver, 31-year-old John Fonseca, told officers he thought he may have a warrant for his arrest. That is when officers realized he was wanted for robbery.
When told he was under arrest Fonseca rolled up the windows to the car. When he finally exited the vehicle and police attempted to arrest him, Fonseca dove back inside the vehicle and reached for what has now been identified as a replica gun.
As the officer pulled him out of the vehicle again, Fonseca punched the officer in the eye. A police dog was then deployed and Fonseca was eventually arrested.
Fonseca was charged with felony assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and interfering with police.
