ALBANY, Ore.-- A pursuit Thursday evening on Interstate 5 ended in the arrest of a Klamath Falls man 4 miles south of Albany.
Drivers on the interstate initially called the police and reported that Kenneth Burnett, 47, was driving erratically. He allegedly was using the shoulder to pass other cars at a high rate of speed. Oregon State Police located Burnett near the Oak Grove Rest Area. Troopers tried to make contact with him, but he fled.
They followed Burnett north on I-5 but weather conditions made it too dangerous to continue the pursuit. He was located again near milepost 228 and state police deployed a spike strip. The passenger left the vehicle, but Burnett tried to continue driving. He eventually got stuck in the mud.
SWAT responded to the scene after weapons were seen being thrown from Burnett's car.
He was eventually arrested and charged with kidnapping, reckless driving, reckless endangering a person, failure to perform the duties of a driver in an accident with property damage, and attempting to elude police.
