CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A Harrisburg man was arrested Monday on charges of soliciting a 14-year-old girl online for sex.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office arrested Terrence Raymond Compton, 58, of Harrisburg as he arrived in Corvallis to allegedly pick up the teenage girl.
Compton was lodged in Benton County Jail and is facing charges of luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child.
In late June, a detective posed as a minor and posted to a local online service. Compton reportedly sent multiple text messages to the undercover account and was told the minor was only 14 years old. Compton later offered to drive to Corvallis to meet with the child for sex, authorities say.
“These cases continue to highlight the problem of online sexual predators targeting vulnerable children in Benton County,” said Undersheriff Greg Ridler. “Please talk with your kids, use tools to protect them and keep an eye on their online activity.”
The Benton County Sheriff's Office encourages the public to report suspected online child solicitation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or call 1-800-843-5678.
