EUGENE, Ore. -- A man is in custody after police said he threatened to shoot staff members at a Eugene church and left bullets in their mail box.

69-year-old Benjamin Hernandez was taken into custody this afternoon just hours after police sent out information about the threat.

Police said Hernandez dropped a threatening letter with bullets in the envelope into the mailbox at Saint Mary Catholic Church.

They said he also sprayed pepper spray into the offices through the mail slot.

Police said this all started after a confrontation with church staff about two weeks ago.

Officers said someone who saw the reports about the threat told police that Hernandez was in the cafe area of the Eugene Public Library.

Hernandez is facing intimidation, criminal mischief and criminal trespass charges.
