Man sentenced for Eugene police chase

EUGENE, Ore. -- A Springfield man will spend more than eight years in prison for a high-speed chase with police.

The incident happened in October 2019.

The pursuit started in Eugene after Luke Deitemeyer forced a 19-year-old girl into his car with a knife.

During the chase, two motorcycle officers crashed, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Deitemeyer reportedly was involved in a hit and run, colliding with another vehicle.

He was arrested in Junction City.

The victim suffered a deep cut to her left leg and was taken to a hospital, police said.

Deitemeyer was sentenced on Tuesday to eight years and four months in prison and will also complete two years of post-prison supervision.

He was charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, eluding, reckless driving, reckless endangering and hit and run immediately following his arrest.
