Man still missing after car found in Coos County

COOS COUNTY, Ore. – A Portland man whose car was found in Coos County is still missing, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

Daniel Wheeler, 68, was reported missing to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 7.

His vehicle was found in the area of Hinch Lane within the boundary of the South Slough Estuary Area. This area is frequented by nature enthusiasts, hikers and kayakers.

A search and rescue team searched the area for several days with help from Douglas County and the US Coast Guard. The search involved drone surveillance, dogs, water boats and ground teams.

The active search has been suspended but will continue as resources are available, the sheriff’s office said. It is an active investigation.
