Man rescued from Willamette River

Water crews used an inflatable boat to rescue the man from the bridge pier.

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Springfield Fire Department rescued a man stranded against a bridge pier Thursday night.

Officials responded to a report of a middle-aged man stuck on the Willamette River underneath the Frohnmayer Footbridge, also known as the Autzen footbridge after 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Fire crews gave the man a life jacket and hot pack using a lowering rope. Water crews used an inflatable boat to rescue the man from the bridge pier. 

The man was evaluated and treated on scene by medics and transported for further care at Riverbend Hospital.
