SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A man was struck and severely injured by a pickup truck Thursday evening.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Main Street and 58th Street.

Witnesses said a man was acting strange and talking nonsense to employees at a nearby gas station. They said he then proceeded to try and cross Main Street but was hit by a white pickup truck.

The Springfield Police Department said he was pinned under the truck and when they freed him, he was conscious and breathing. He was then taken to a local hospital.

Eastbound Main Street between Bob Straub Parkway and 58th Street closed for three hours while police investigated.

The victim's injuries are unknown but the Springfield Police Department's Major Accident Investigative Team was on scene and officers said this means they believe the injuries are life-threatening.
