EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Marathon weekend kicks off this Friday with the Expo and wraps up Sunday with the Finish Festival.

Thousands of runners, spectators and volunteers will flood the streets of Eugene and Springfield Saturday and Sunday mornings. But before the big races, runners must pick up their race packets, while checking out what's new at this years' expo.

“The expo this year, we're back at the fairgrounds, which is awesome because of the parking. We've been there before it's been a great venue. We're looking forward to it,” says Richard Maher, Eugene Marathon Race Director.

The expo starts Friday and continues Saturday, and yes, parking will be free.

“We are going to have some new and exciting vendors that are coming. Lots of samples. Lots of new products that people can test out and try. The running stores will be there if you need a new pair of shoes just in time,” says Christa Olsen, Expo & Finish Festival Coordinator.

Back by popular demand is DJ Yoga Flow. Chelsea from Hard Core Yoga and DJ Mandy Mac will host a community free yoga class at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Lane Events Center.

Runners can still register for all the races at the expo and interested volunteers can still sign up.

“We still need volunteers. Course marshals are a big deal. And it's basically a couple hours and you get to watch the race. Progress. And it's a lot of fun,” Maher said.

The Kids Duck Dash and the Run TrackTown 5K will be Saturday morning. On Sunday will be the Eugene Marathon and Half Marathon.

Maher says to check the marathon's website for traffic diversions as many roads will be blocked Sunday morning.

“You know it's our 12th year and it's one day a year and we just ask the community to bear with us that one day, Sunday,” Maher says.

After runners cross the finish line at Hayward Field, they can head straight to the finish festival.

“One of the great things about the festival is at the end we have an award ceremony. And it's just a great place for people to meet up with friends and family and to celebrate their big accomplishment they just did,” Olsen says.

“The whole weekend is my favorite really. If I think about it. I love the expo. I love being around runners and their positive attitudes, and seeing old friends and family. It's like a homecoming weekend for us. And we're a family here, and it's a great event for us. And a fun event. And every year I look forward to it,” Maher says.
