SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Marion County Sheriff Jason Myers says one of his deputies has been arrested on charges of theft and official misconduct.

Myers said in a news release that Sean Banks was arrested Thursday and booked into the Linn County Jail.

He said his office learned in March that Banks was being investigated by the Salem Police Department.

The deputy was placed on administrative leave two weeks ago.

Authorities have yet to say what the deputy is accused of stealing.

It's unknown if Banks has hired an attorney, or will seek a public defender.
