ALBANY, Ore. – A motorcyclist died in a crash near Albany Friday afternoon.

A caller reported that a red motorcycle was swerving into other lanes of travel on Knox Butte Road as it entered Albany city limits, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said. The operator reportedly was unable to control the motorcycle and nearly hit other vehicles.

Albany Police also received complaints.

The motorcycle was later seen traveling on NE Old Salem Road toward Millersburg. The crash happened near NE Conser Road. Deputies responded to the scene at about 2:45 p.m. and arrived just minutes later.

Darren Gregory, 35, was found unconscious with no pulse. Life saving efforts were not successful, and Gregory was pronounced dead. Deputies said Gregory was wearing a full-face helmet, and speed was not a primary cause in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Deputies will look into possible impairment or a medical condition that may have caused the crash. If you have any information, contact deputies at 541-967-3950.
