EUGENE, Ore. -- As Lane County and cities like Eugene and Springfield shorten the list of what can be recycled, a local business is stepping up in response.

Mountain Rose Herbs is hosting a Take Back Recycling event this weekend. During the event, they’ll be accepting clean Mountain Rose Herbs plastics. A list includes lids, bottles and tops.

“I think it’s really important to us, being that we are a zero-waste certified facility, that we take responsibility and help to encourage the community to come down and participate with us,” said Sheena November, a store manager with Mountain Rose Herbs.

The plastics will be sent to a local recycling manufacture and will be re-purposed into plastic furniture.

The take back is set for Sunday, Aug. 5, at 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mountain Rose Herbs Mercantile, 152 W. 5th Avenue.

The recent recycling changes are due to a drop in demand for recycled materials in China.
