EUGENE, Ore. – A major chain of rear-end crashes snarled traffic on Interstate 105 in Eugene Wednesday and caused delays for hours.

According to Eugene Police, the rear-end crashes began at 5:17 p.m. after a car swerved toward the southbound I-5 onramp and came to a stop. The driver claimed they had been sideswiped by another car as they were pulling onto the ramp.

The stopped vehicle prompted a chain of rear-end crashes. Ultimately, seven cars were involved.

The 83-year-old man driving the sixth vehicle and the 24-year-old man driving the seventh vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the other five vehicles were not injured.

KEZI 9 News crews reported that the traffic was backed up to the Valley River Center. Police said the road and on-ramp were back open before 8 p.m.
