EUGENE, Ore. -- Hundreds of people throughout Eugene celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
The annual NAACP MLK Jr. Community March started in front of Autzen Stadium, and a handful of speakers, performers and players from the Duck football team spoke to the large crowd.

The group then marched to the Shedd Institute to honor King.
"The dream that was spoken of by him so many years ago, is a real thing that we are pursuing," Ebony Morgan with White Bird Clinic said. "If we all work hard and stay invested, I believe we'll get there. And today, all the people that came out today and spoke and said some wonderful things are an example of that hope."

The event was not only sponsored by the NAACP, but also the University of Oregon and White Bird Clinic.

Organizers said they are grateful for everyone who showed up Monday, and they hope it's even larger next year.
