EUGENE, Ore. - A new bike path near I-5 and Beltline opened up on Saturday, May 19.

Staff who worked on the project said it’s an important step towards more accessible and safer transportation in the Old Coburg area. It helps people easily access by foot or bike places like Costco or Gateway.

"This is important because it helps take people off of the roads and put them on a safe and secure path, so we can promote more people choosing to walk, ride, roll, however they want to, in order to get from place to place,” said David Groff, who works with Safe Routes to School.

Another feature that increases the safety is LED lamp lights. They extend all the way down the two-and-a-half-mile path.

Staff said the path extends into Gateway, so it’s also a way to connect the communities of Springfield and Eugene.
