NEWPORT, Ore.-- A house in Newport is a total loss after a fire engulfed it early Sunday morning, sending one to the hospital, fire officials said.

According to the Newport Fire Department, first responders received reports of a house fire at 12:08 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of SW Abalone Street and SW 72nd Street.

When crews arrived, they found the two-story house engulfed in flame. Officials said a live power line was down on the driveway, making it difficult for firefighters to get to the blaze.

Using ground hose monitors to stop the fire from advancing, crews remained at the home for 5 hours making sure the fire was out. The home was a complete loss and a nearby structure was damaged by the heat.

One of the residents of the home was sent to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, and other residents are being helped by the Red Cross.

One cat was rescued from the blaze, but one other is missing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
