NORTH BEND, Ore. – Two suspects were arrested in North Bend after police said they hit a man over the head in an attempt to steal his bike.

Michael McKinney, 21, and Richard Nolan, 34, both of North Bend were taken to the Coos County Jail and charged with second degree robbery, a Measure 11 felony.

Police said the incident happened Wednesday just before 5 a.m. when a 50-year-old man arrived for a work crew pick-up at the North Bend Annex.

McKinney and Nolan allegedly approached the man and struck him in the head with an unknown object. They left without the bike, police said.

The victim called 911, and officers arrived to take a report. The man refused medical attention.

Police said officers canvassed the neighborhood and found the suspects hiding at a nearby home. Physical evidence and a positive identification led to McKinney and Nolan’s arrests. Police said they later admitted to the crime.
