EUGENE, Ore. -- A series of several earthquakes struck off the Oregon Coast Saturday morning, with the strongest being a magnitude 5.4 at 5:52 a.m., according to the United States Geological Service.
So far at least eight earthquakes ranging in strength from magnitude 3.2 to 5.4 have struck in an area about 200 miles off the coast of Coos Bay. All of the earthquakes have occurred near the surface, with a depth of about six miles.
The earthquakes are happening in an area known as the Blanco Transform Fault Zone, which connects the Juan de Fuca plate and the Pacific Plate.
According to the National Tsunami Warning Center, no tsunami threat exists from these earthquakes.
