CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Highway 34 into and out of Corvallis has been closed until further notice, according to ODOT officials.

The high flood waters, which ODOT said likely haven't reached their highest level yet, have completely covered the highway.

Before that closure, vehicles were desperately trying to get into and out of Corvallis.

The flood also brought in hoards of spectators like Rudy Doerner, who were in awe of what they were seeing.

"It's insane how one artery can affect one town," Doerner said. "I was saying to myself, thank god today's not a Beaver game day because it would've just been a cluster of cars just trying to get out or get in."

Many people that were gathered to watch the flooding were comparing it to what happened in 1996 and 1997, when the Corvallis area saw something very similar happen.

"As you can see, climate can definitely throw something at us every now and then," Doerner said. "One little curveball to let us know we can't do anything."

ODOT officials said Highway 34 both into and out of Corvallis and going south towards Highway 99 and Highway 20 is completely shut down and will remain so until further notice.
