OSU researcher accused of sex abuse in Virginia resigns

Brett Tyler's resignation is effective Nov. 30 and he will be working remotely until then.

CORVALIS, Ore. – A faculty researcher at Oregon State University accused of sexually abusing a child in Virginia is resigning.

Brett Tyler, 66, is out on bail and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

According to court documents, Tyler is considered to be a fugitive from justice out of Virginia. He was booked into the Benton County Jail last Thursday.

Tyler faces charges of forcible sodomy, taking indecent liberties with children and aggravated sexual battery.

OSU spokesman Steve Clark said Tyler has worked at the university since 2012. Tyler resigned as director of the Center for Quantitative Life Sciences on Tuesday. He also resigned from the university, effective Nov. 30, and will work remotely until then.
