EUGENE, Ore. – Shortly after a vehicle was reported stolen in Eugene, it was located nearby – along with the suspect.

Police say a community service officer responded to Iowa Street and Roosevelt Boulevard at about 5 p.m. on Monday to take the victim’s report. A man in his late 70s told police his Honda Accord was taken between 5 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. when he realized it was gone from the front of his home. The officer received a photo of the car and a possible suspect.

Before submitting the paperwork related to the stolen vehicle, the officer checked the area and found the car at the Seneca Park and Ride parking lot just southeast of the West 11th Fred Meyer.

While the vehicle was empty, suspect Samuel Luis Reymundo, 26, was spotted making his way to the car, police said. When Reymundo saw the officer, he reportedly made a detour, and officers followed him from a safe distance.

That’s when police say the suspect walked into Little Caesars Pizza, ordered food and a drink and continued east toward Seneca Road. A patrol officer and sergeant and a police dog unit assisted in the arrest.

Police said Reymundo had the victim’s car and house keys. He was taken to the Lane Coutny Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of methamphetamine.

The victim was grateful to be reunited with his car and keys so quickly, police added.
