SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Lane County District Attorney Patty Perlow has ruled a recent officer-involved shooting justified.

On May 30 just after 9 p.m., suspect Alexander Konnoff allegedly confronted and threatened a neighbor, who called police. The man was reportedly yelling and playing threatening recording that could be heard throughout the neighborhood.

Officers tried to contact him, but he refused to come out of his home. When two of the three officers moved out of sight, he did come out, and the remaining officer attempted an arrest. However, police say Konnoff headed back inside and used pepper spray on the officer during a struggle.

Another officer ran inside after them and reportedly found Konnoff holding a large fixed blade over the officer he had been struggling with and asking him if he wanted to die. The second officer fired one round, hitting Konnoff in the elbow, police said.

Konnof was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening.

Weeks after his first arrest, Konnoff was arrested a second time. Police said on July 15, they learned a wanted man was at a home near the 400 block of Broadway Street, and upon making contact with detectives, Konnoff reportedly ranted and said that he wanted to "kill cops."

After five hours of negotiation, he agreed to come out and was taken into custody, police say.
