Police: Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Roseburg

Two people were flown to a hospital with injuries after the shooting, and one of them died.

ROSEBURG, Ore. – A man is dead and another is injured after a shooting in Roseburg on Thursday.

Roseburg police responded to Rose Villa apartments in the 2500 block of NE Stephens at about 7 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired.

Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and emergency personnel also arrived on scene. Two Roseburg men were taken to Legacy Emmanuel by life flight in connection with the shooting. 

Later Friday afternoon, police identified the two men involved. They said Terrence Beason, 37, was injured and Gregory Bennett, 59, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Beason is reportedly in fair condition. Earlier in the day, police said they believe the men knew each other and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. 

The investigation is ongoing.
