Oregon track & field breaks records at the NCAA Championships

LSU wins the men's title, USC takes home the women's

EUGENE, Ore. -- The magic of Hayward Field was in full force during the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The four-day meet ran from Wednesday June 9th to Saturday June 12th.

The Men of Oregon claimed three national titles.

Freshman Cole Hocker won the 1,500 meter race in 3:35.35. Emmanuel Ihemeje became the first Duck to ever win the triple jump. Cooper Teare set a meet record when he finished first in the 5,000 meter race in 13:12.27. 

The Ducks also got third-place finishes from Micah Williams in the 100 and Charlie Hunter in the 800. 

As a team, Oregon finished in second place with 53 points. LSU won the 2021 outdoor title with 84 points.

In the women's portion of the event, the star of the show for Oregon was senior Carmela Cardama Baez. She was crowned the 10K champion when she crossed the finish line with her personal best time of 32 minutes, 16.13 seconds. Baez is the first woman from Oregon to win the 10,000 since 1984.

Freshman Kemba Nelson finished 4th in the 100. 

USC won the women's outdoor championship with 74 points.
