Beavers' defense focused on improving before Hawaii

Oregon State football is looking to quiet the rumors that the defense is not improved from a season ago.

Corvallis, OR-- What happens when you put the Beavers' defense and the Rainbow Warriors' offense on the same field? A lot of points. But that is something that Oregon State's defense is hoping to avoid when they face Hawaii this Saturday.

Last Friday, the Beavers defense got torched, roasted, ran over you name it against a high-powered Cowboys' offense that scored 52 points with 352 yards on the ground and 203 through the air.

"We were not pleased," said defensive coordinator Tim Tibesar. "We've got to play better and we know that. We've got to continue to work hard and work for daily improvement."

Defensive back Shawn Wilson also knows that defense can't allow that against Hawaii.

"We just have to finish," said Wilson. "We have to keep that intensity. Once we make a mistake we kind of fall off and we have to keep that intensity up. Especially going to Hawaii, we definitely have to bring our own energy out there."

After finishing as the worst in total defense in the Pac-12 and second worst in all of college football just a season ago, fans may be concerned that the team is on track to repeat itself.

But Tibesar thinks otherwise.

"There's no panic," Tibesar explained. "There's an urgency to get it better. We're a better defense we just got to go out and prove it."
