Beaverton, OR -- Oregon State football held spring practice at Mountainside High School for the Dam City Showcase.

The practice was open to the public to give fans a first look at the team for the upcoming season.

"It's always good for a little change of scenery, change of pace, and get out in front of the fans and interact with them a little bit. I think it was good," quarterback Jake Luton said.

OSU star running back Jermar Jefferson and wide receivers Isaiah Hodgins and Trevon Bradford were sidelined for the practice, giving the younger players more opportunity.

"You want young guys coming out and having to kind of learn on the fly and that's the fastest way to get better," Luton said. " I think it's been, they've done a good job."

While the Beavers had strong performances on offense, the defense was the bright spot of practice.

"I think they started with their energy and then they turned each other on," head coach Jonathan Smith said. "You can't just count on one guy to bring down and make a bunch of solo tackles. It's a group effort and that showed up quite a bit today, and it's really showed up throughout spring. I think we're flying around and making some plays."

OSU will hold its spring game on April 20 at Reser Stadium.
