SALEM, Ore. – Oregon’s unemployment rate is dropping, and the state is adding jobs during the summer months.
During July, the rate dropped to 5.2% from June’s 5.6%. The drop in the unemployment rate has been accelerating over the past two months after slow declines in the first five months of the year.
Roughly 20,000 jobs were added in July. The biggest gains in the job market in the state were in government, leisure and hospitality. Government job gains were above 12,000, and leisure and hospitality added more than 7,000 new jobs.
Only one industry lost more than 900 jobs: transportation, warehousing and utilities with 2,500 jobs.
