SALEM, Ore. -- The union that represents 4,500 higher education workers at seven public universities in Oregon announced that it's members voted Tuesday to authorize a strike.
The strike would begin Sept. 30 at 7 a.m. across all public university campuses in the state. The date to strike will happen five days after Oregon State University begins fall term and one day before the University of Oregon starts fall quarter.

The union says there is still one more day of bargaining scheduled. If a deal is reached that satisfies both the union and the universities, the strike will be called off.
