ASHLAND, Ore. – A 14-year-old boy from Ashland will spend the next 11 years in juvenile prison for murdering his mother and seriously injuring his sister.

Ezekiel Holmes was 12 years old when he attacked them in January 2017. He pleaded guilty in August of this year.

A Jackson County judge sentenced Holmes to the Oregon Youth Authority until he’s 25 years old.

Police said they still don’t have a clear motive for the attack and doctors found no psychotic disorders.

The judge said the lack of mental illnesses left a “chilling effect” on the courtroom. However, Holmes lawyer said he’s already made “significant progress” toward no longer being a threat to society.
