Pedestrian killed by train in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A train hit and killed a pedestrian in Springfield on Monday, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened just before 1 p.m. on Jasper Road near Mount Vernon Road.

Deputies and Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire and Rescue responded. Authorities said they found a man near the tracks who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office and the Lane County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.

The man's identity has not yet been determined.

Bob Straub Parkway is closed at Jasper Road as the investigation continues. The road is expected to reopen at about 4 p.m.
