COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Police say the victim in a baseball bat murder was the suspect's father.
According to court documents, the victim is Stanley Hicks, 69, of Cottage Grove.
Police said on Monday they responded to a call at 8:53 p.m. at 1315 South 8th Street. They found that Stanley Hicks had been struck in the head with a baseball bat. Police said he was taken to the hospital and died two days later from his injuries.
His son, Britton Hicks, 35, was waiting for officers outside the home before he was taken into custody and lodged at the Lane County Corrections Facility, police said. He was arraigned Wednesday on one count of murder.
Court documents also show that Britton Hicks was arrested in December 2018 after an alleged altercation with Stanley Hicks on charges of assault and harassment. Those charges were dropped in court.
"Maybe someone should look into Britton's life," said Officer Harry Sullivan with the Cottage Grove Police Department. "But at this time, we've just been going around trying to get statements from people and further our investigation."
Officials are still investigating the incident.
