CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Corvallis Police Department is speaking out after 16-year-old Ava Carey was found over the weekend.

Police said they cannot release where she was found and who she was with because it is still an active investigation. However, they said no one is in custody and the investigation is not criminal.

Lt. Ryan Eaton with Corvallis Police said the FBI is still helping with the investigation.

“It’s difficult for us because we want to share information, we want to keep our community in the know, we want them to feel safe but we have to balance that with the integrity of the investigation,” Eaton said.

Police did confirm that Ava has been reunited with her family.

Eaton said the community and partner agencies in the mid-valley area helped bring Ava home.

“Even during a time of a world pandemic, the community is very strong, the support is very strong everybody is willing to come together for a common good and a common goal,” Eaton said. “I think the fact such an uplifting thing came out of this, is really important.”
