Junction City, Ore. -- Police identified the man responsible in Sunday morning's RV lot fire, which destroyed 6 RVs as Russel Alexander, 63.

Junction City Police say they got a call at around 2:30 a.m. about a fire that had broken out at the Guaranty RV lot off SW Bryant Street and SW Kalmia Street.

When they arrived, they found multiple RVs engulfed in flames.

They also say 5 of the RVs that caught fire were new, but they say there was also a 6th, which was owned and occupied by Alexander. He was living in the trailer on the property with permission from the business. He had both electrical and water hookups.

One employee says the price of the RVs lost was well over $100,000.

Police also say that Alexander admitted to have been smoking methamphetamine in the trailer hours before the fire started but he fell asleep.

He says he was woken up to sounds he was unfamiliar with. When he got up and went to the bathroom looking for the cause of the sounds, he felt the door was hot and knew there was a fire.

His RV soon became fully engulfed and spread to the other 5, causing explosions from propane tanks as well.

Junction City Police Chief Bob Morris said Alexander tried to save his belongings before ultimately evacuating.

"He began throwing all of his property outside of the trailer in an attempt to save it," Morris began. "But at a certain point became overtaken with the dense smoke and decided to exit the trailer for his own safety."

Police say Alexander was charged with 5 counts of reckless burning.

He was cited but taken to the hospital with injuries related to smoke and chemical inhalation from the fires.

Police also say the investigation is still underway and that Alexander could still be facing more charges.
