EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene police and fire officials are investigating a series of small fires that took place overnight and into early Monday morning.

Eugene Springfield Fire Department officials said an unspecified number of fires took place in Eugene in dumpsters and trash bins from late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

Fire officials said the fires appeared to be suspicious, and they are investigating the possibility that they are connected.

Deputy Fire Marshal Austin Brushett said some of the fires were dumpster fires and some were residential trash bin fires. He said it appears that the fires were intentionally set.

The fire department has received one video from a resident, and it is looking for more videos. Anyone with video of the fires is asked to contact either the Eugene Springfield Fire department or Eugene Police Department.

Brushett can be reached at 541-501-7070 and EPD detective Chris White can be reached at 541-682-5376.
