Police investigating fatal high-speed crash in Sweet Home

Three cars were involved, and one driver died in the crash.

SWEET HOME, Ore. – Police are investigating a fatal high-speed crash in Sweet Home.

Officers responded to Main Street and Pleasant Valley Road just before 8 p.m. on Thursday. Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District medics also arrived on scene.

Three vehicles were involved, and the driver of one of the cars had died, police said. The driver has been identified as Sherry Wheeler, 48, of Salem.

Investigators said Wheeler had been driving east on Main Street at a high speed approaching the city limits. The car then hit a vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and 1st Avenue and then collided with a car at the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road. It came to a rest in front of 250 Main Street, they said.

The other two drivers were not taken to the hospital.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and those with information should contact detectives at 541-367-5181.
