EUGENE, Ore. – Police spent five hours early Wednesday morning responding to a call about a man who was on the rooftop of a stranger’s house.
When police responded, the man jumped off of the rooftop and ran away. Police eventually found him again on another rooftop and he refused to come down.
Hans Ian Kengle, 38, eventually came down from the rooftop peacefully and was taken into custody on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct and interfering with police, authorities said.
Police were first called just before midnight Tuesday about a man pounding on doors on Wilmington Court and Cooperstown Avenue in a north Eugene neighborhood off of Crescent Avenue. A resident flagged down a responding officer in the 3300 block of Arlington Avenue regarding a man he didn’t know who was on his roof.
The officer reportedly found Kengle and told him to stop, but Kengle jumped off the roof and ran away. He was then located on a rooftop in the 3300 block of Cooperstown Avenue and refused to come down, police said. A Eugene Police Department crisis negotiation team member eventually talked Kengle into coming down from the roof.
