EUGENE, Ore. -- A wanted man is behind bars after an extensive search by Eugene Police Wednesday night. The search began near Motel 6 on Glenwood Drive and ended with 24-year-old Mohammad Melthi in custody.

According to Eugene Police, officers were following up on an unrelated case when they found Melthi in a stolen vehicle. Police say he then ran into the woods to escape arrest.

Melthi had multiple felony warrants out for his arrest and was known to be armed and dangerous. Multiple agencies responded to set up a perimeter, including a K9 unit and a drone team.

An alert was also sent out to nearby residents to shelter in place. After a two-and-a-half hour search, the K9 unit found Melthi southeast of the motel and he was taken into custody on multiple charges including assault, violating a restraining order, burglary and theft of a firearm.

Melthi was first taken to RiverBend Hospital for evaluation and will then be held at the Lane County Jail.
