EUGENE, Ore. – Officers responded to a report of domestic violence in Eugene Monday morning, and the suspect was shot during a confrontation, according to the Eugene Police Department.

Police said dispatch learned of the incident just before 10:30 a.m. A restraining order had reportedly been violated. The victim called police and said the man had left and was armed with a knife.

Officers found the suspect running down an alley near 2nd Avenue and Madison Street. Police said arrests are mandatory after a restraining order is violated.

The suspect reportedly was armed with a knife and moved quickly toward the officers, who shot him. Police said the officers administered aid and the suspect was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Lane County’s Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team has been called in, and the two officers are on administrative leave.

Investigators will review body camera video, in-car video and third-party video from a nearby building. At this time, police said the information supports their description of events.

There is no ongoing threat.
